Project: Modeling with Systems of Equations

Your assignment is to model a real-life problem involving systems of equations. You must somehow incorporate yourself into the problem (use your first name only).
  1. First, describe your problem in plain English.
  2. Next, model your problem using a system of equations (be sure to define all variables).
  3. Finally, solve your system using four different methods: substitution, elimination, graphing, and matrices.
  4. You will create a webpage to display your problem and its solution. I suggest using CodeCogs: http://www.codecogs.com/latex/eqneditor.php for producing all mathematical notation.

Using CodeCogs LaTeX Editor

Step One: Enter the LaTeX commands in the editing window.
Step Two: Verify that the output looks correct.
Step Three: Copy the HTML code in the box at the bottom of the editor

Step Four: Return to the Weebly Elements tab and drag "Custom HTML" onto your page. Then paste the HTML code into the box you dragged onto your page. Click on the element and choose Alignment: Center.
The result should look like the following:

Step Five: Oops!! If that doesn't work, go back to CodeCogs and click "Click here to Download Image (GIF)" to save the notation as a picture. Then insert the picture on your webpage and edit the image to remove the border.
The result should look like the following:

Project Tips & Suggestions

Picture
  • Include images on your webpage. Be sure to accredit all images properly and avoid using images that are copyright protected. For help finding and publishing images correctly, please refer to the following article: Picture This!
  • (optional) The word cloud at the top of this page was created at  http://www.wordle.net/advanced using the advanced features. You can choose from various layouts and color schemes. Use Print Screen to capture and save the finished image.
  • Create your graphs using GeoGebra and save them as .png files so that you can easily insert them into your webpage. Be sure to resize the GeoGebra window to eliminate unnecessary white space before saving the graphs.
  • Be creative! And have fun. :-)
